Call Transfer
A Call Transfer is a telecommunications mechanism that enables a user to relocate an existing telephone call to another phone or URL, using a transfer button and dialing the required location.
Fax Voip Softphone supports 2 different methods for implementing Call Transfer – standard method and Hairpin Call Transfer (2 call legs).
Standard Implementation (recommended). When a call transfer occurs, a control message (SIP REFER, H.450.2) is sent back to the other party to request that the other party initiates a follow-on call from the other party to the final transfer-to destination. The standard transfer method results in an optimal direct call path between the transferee and the transfer-to party after the call transfer is committed. The standard mechanism for Call Transfer usually supported by VOIP PBX in local network. Nevertheless, these mechanism often does not work in public VOIP networks for different reasons. It is recommended to use standard mechanism where possible.
Hairpin Call Transfer (transfer-by-jone mode, 2 call legs). This is an internal mechanism. In this case, the original transferee-to-transferor VOIP call leg is kept, and a second transferor to transfer-to VoIP call leg is created for the consultation call phase of the transfer. When the transfer is committed, the original and consultation call legs are simply bridged together. This method has the advantage that it has no end-to-end dependency on the capabilities of the transferee or transfer-to VOIP endpoint.

Configure Call Transfer
Fax Voip Softphone can be configured to use standard or Hairpin Call Transfer methods. When using Hairpin Call Transfer, an audio file may be played into the phone line, so that the transferee listens to music while waiting on the phone.
- 2
Transfer a Call
When an incoming or outgoing call becomes accepted, that call may be transferred to another phone. To initiate a transfer, enter the recipient number of the call to be transferred, and then click on the Transfer button.
Upon the call successfully transferred, the initial call is disconnected and the Call successfully transferred message is displayed on the info panel for approximately 5 seconds.
If call transfer fails, the initial call is not disconnected and the Call Transfer failed message can be displayed on the info panel.
Call Forwarding
Call Forwarding is a telephony feature which redirects an incoming telephone call to another destination, which may be, for example, a mobile telephone, voicemail box or another telephone number where the desired called party is available.
The following call forwarding rules can be applied:
- Forward All Voice Calls - the incoming calls are immediately forwarded to the destination number you have selected whether you are busy in a call or not. This rule will override the next two rules.
- Forward No Answer - the incoming calls are forwarded to another number if you do not answer the call and No Answer Ring Duration timer expires.
- Forward Busy - the incoming calls are forwarded to another number when all lines are busy. This type of forwarding is also applied if you click Hang up button during an incoming call.
Fax Voip Softphone supports 2 different methods for implementing Call Forwarding – standard method and Hairpin Call Forwarding (2 call legs).
Standard Implementation (recommended). When a call is forwarded, the message (302 Moved Temporarily, H.450.3) is sent back to the calling party requesting that the caller reoriginate a follow-on call to the forwarded-to destination. The standard mechanism for Call Forwarding usually supported by VOIP PBX in local network. Nevertheless, these mechanism often does not work in public VOIP networks for different reasons. It is recommended to use standard mechanism where possible.
Hairpin Call Forwarding (2 call legs) This is an internal mechanism. In this case, a second independent VOIP call leg is created for the forwarded call leg. This leg is bridged to the original incoming VoIP call leg. This method has the advantage that it has no end-to-end dependency on the capabilities of the VOIP endpoints.
